Biography:
Abe Morris is a former professional
bull rider, television commentator, rodeo announcer,
author, free-lance writer, registered financial
services representative, and highly acclaimed
motivational speaker.
Abe
grew up in Woodstown, New Jersey and got his
start at Cowtown Rodeo riding junior bulls.
After graduation from high school he ventured
west to Laramie, Wyoming and attended the University
of Wyoming on academic and rodeo scholarships.
He graduated with a degree in Business Management.
While in college he became a member of the Professional
Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). A few years
later he obtained his PRCA announcer s card
and is the only African American to have achieved
this distinction.
Abe competed in various rodeos and bull riding
events throughout the United States. All the
while he garnered a lot of media attention in
newspapers, radio and television. Mr. Morris
was a television broadcast commentator for nine
consecutive years with Prime Sports and FOX
Sports Networks for the world famous Cheyenne
Frontier Days Rodeo (the Daddy of em All)
Abe Morris qualified for the Mountain States
Circuit Finals Rodeo eight times and the National
Circuit Finals Rodeo twice in the bull riding
event.
Outside of the rodeo arena Mr. Morris was a
very successful businessman selling life insurance
and annuity products. He has also worked in
the telephone call centers for financial services
companies.
For the fourth consecutive year, Abe has been
invited as a guest and done a live interview
at the FOX 31 News studio in Denver, Colorado
on Martin Luther King s holiday. In January
2009 the proud father was interviewed along
with his young son Justin.
In May 2008 Abe was the keynote speaker at the
graduation ceremony for the African American
studies department at the University of Wyoming.
Since his first book My Cowboy Hat Still Fits
was published in March 2005, Abe has had numerous
radio and television interviews. He has also
been featured in several newspapers and magazine
articles, and has received outstanding reviews
for his insightful autobiography.
Abe has written a number of articles which have
been published in a variety of journals, magazines
and newspapers. He has also had a monthly feature
column in the Humps N Horns Bull Riding News
(Chouteau, Oklahoma) for over six years.
His second book, about his custody fight for
his son against extraordinary odds, will be
published by Pronghorn Press in May 2009. He
currently has three more books in development,
including one that offers a definitive historical
perspective on African American cowboys.
Abe Morris was inducted into the Salem County
(New Jersey) Sports Hall of Fame in December
2006. Abe is very personable and engaging. He
has become a dynamic role model. Abe is fervently
carrying on a legacy and spreading the word
that African American rodeo cowboys do exist.
