Biography:
How does a Veteran who served 22 years in the United States Marine Corps, received the “Soldiers Medal for Heroism” and who served in both the Vietnam War and the first Gulf War become homeless? Dr. Carlton Young is a native of Stockton, California, he grew up in the San Joaquin Valley. After graduation from high school, he joined the United States Military and served in both the Vietnam War and the first Gulf War. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he not only served in a combat line unit, he was awarded the “Soldiers Medal for Heroism.”

While in the military, Carlton also served through the family advocate office as a drug and alcohol counselor for marines and their families.  After retiring in August 1991, he found himself living as a single parent with his young son.  Carlton went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the headquarters office in Washington DC as a drug program site coordinator and provided key support in the objectives of the drug and alcohol testing program.

After two years in the Washington DC office, Carlton transferred to Atlanta, Georgia as the regional program
manager, Carlton left the “FAA” and went on to become an entrepreneur. After some real life financial setbacks, Carlton and his son found themselves homeless and living on the streets of Atlanta. After a career as a decorated Marine then working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Carlton suddenly went from actively thriving to barely surviving while living out of the trunk of his car.

Moving in and out of extended stay motels, and navigating through the sometimes dangerous streets of Atlanta not only did he survive,  but he got his son through school, and gained insight into how the average person becomes hopeless or homeless.  What’s more, he understands what the downtrodden need to overcome their situations. Carlton says that the homeless are not bad people, they just need hope and this is what Carlton provides – hope for the homeless, hope for the almost homeless and hope for those who have no intention of becoming homeless.  He has chronicled his life on the streets in a new book titled “From Home To Homeless To Success”

Now he is one of America’s upcoming motivational/inspirational speakers and author, he is the co-author of three books, “From Mediocre to Magnificent”, “Unleash the Passion for Your Purpose”, and “Unleash The Greatness within You”. Carlton now shares his story and tells his audiences how to overcome adversity and make the rest of your life the best of your life through the power of your words.

Dr. Carlton Young received his doctor degree from the North Carolina College of Theology in June of 2009, he is a member and the President of the SunTrust Toastmasters Club # 6056 and member of the Dawn Breakers Toastmasters club in Decatur, Georgia.

Dr. Young has been featured in a variety of media including print, television and radio.
