Biography:
World Wide Technology CEO and prominent
businessman David Lloyd Steward was born on
July 2, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents,
Navy veteran, Harold Lloyd Steward and Dorothy
Elizabeth Massingale Steward moved back to his
mother's hometown, Clinton, Missouri two months
after Steward's birth. Growing up in rural Clinton,
Steward attended colored Lincoln School, then,
integrated Franklin School with classmate Janet
Brame in 1957. Steward, a Life Scout and basketball
all-star, graduated from Clinton Senior High
School in 1969. He earned his B.S. degree in
business administration in 1974 from Central
Missouri University.
In
1990, he founded World Wide Technology. Founded
with a staff of four people and 4,000 square
feet of office space, WWT has grown to employ
over 900 employees in one million plus square
foot facilities with over $3 billion in sales.
WWT specializes in supplying technological and
supply chain solutions to its customers, suppliers
and partners. WWT is considered the Top Cisco
Growing Technology Company and has received
countless awards for excellence including several
outstanding minority supplier awards gaining
an elite status with industry leading manufacturers,
Alcatel, Dell, Fujitsu, IBM, HP, Oracle, Sun
Microsystems, Lucent, and Microsoft. WWT obtained
the status of the most successful African American
owned business in America with Steward featured
in Black Enterprise magazine and other publications.
Steward
serves on numerous boards and committees including:
Civic Progress of St. Louis; The Regional Business
Council; Webster University; Barnes-Jewish Hospital
and Harris-Stowe State College African American
Business Leadership Council. In 2005, Steward
served as Campaign Chair for the United Way
of Greater St. Louis. That same year, Steward's
book, Doing Business By The Good Book was published.
Steward
lives in the St. Louis area with his wife, Thelma.
They have two adult children.
