Biography:
Dr.
Ernest Black made a commitment after The Million
Man March to come back to his neighborhood and
make a difference. He did this by becoming a
teacher in South Los Angeles. Dr. Black spent
12 years as part of the Los Angeles Unified
School District before leaving to help African
American students and their teachers unleash
the potential in and out of the classroom. Dr.
Black has developed curriculum that helps African
American male students close the achievement
gap. He has also initiated professional development
that helps the educator create meaningful and
thoughtful lessons for African American students.
One such program, The African American Male
Success Program, has been utilized in several
elementary and middle schools in the Los Angeles
area. The program has received positive reviews
and feedback from the students who participate
in the program, teachers, and administrators
and the school sites. The outcomes of the program
provide both qualitative and quantitative data
on student progress. This data is also used
for replication for other subgroups within the
school to successful close the achievement gap.
Dr. Black has maintained membership in several
education organizations including, the National
Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) and
ASCD. Dr. Black continues to research on the
academic development of African American students
and promotes scholarly implementation of systemic
change fosters closing the achievement gap.
Dr. Black earned his Bachelor of Arts degree
in Communications from Western Michigan University.
He earned his doctoral degree in Education from
the University of Southern California. He currently
provides mentorship to students who are in the
dissertation process with the University of
Phoenix doctoral program. He has held several
adjunct professorships. He currently is an adjunct
professor at Chapman University.

Available to provide workshops, seminars and
keynote addresses on topics related to education,
curriculum and curriculum development, and educating
African American students. Also available as
a motivational speaker to K-12 students and
parents.
