Biography:
Ken Griffey, Sr. (born George Kenneth Griffey on April 10, 1950 in Donora, Pennsylvania) is a former Major League Baseball star. He is the father of current Cincinnati Reds centerfielder Ken Griffey, Jr. and former Mariner minor league prospect Craig Griffey.

Ken was introduced to Major League Baseball on August 25, 1973. He played for the Cincinnati Reds (1973-81, 1988-90), in which he was part of three (3) World Series Championships (1975, 1976 & 1990), New York Yankees (1982-86), Atlanta Braves (1986-88) and Seattle Mariners (1990-91). History was made in 1989 when his son joined the Mainers; the Griffey’s were the first father and son to play major league baseball simultaneously. When he joined his son there in 1990, they became the first father and son teammates. He also hit back-to-back home runs with his son Ken Griffey Jr. on September 14, 1990. During his 19 year career he hit 151 home runs, a .296 batting average and was MVP of the 1980 All-Star game.

Ken was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2004. Currently Ken is serving in the capacity of Special Consultant and scout for the Cincinnati Reds.

He now resides in Orlando, FL, where in 2007 he started the Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation, aimed with dual roles. One, to bring awareness of Prostate Cancer to cities across America, to help at-risk youth in Orlando, by providing health and sports clinics. In addition, Mr. Griffey travels the Country giving motivational speeches on a variety of topics to include parenting, team work, business ventures, etc.

The Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation seeks to increase awareness about the need to adopt healthy lifestyles that include exercise and fitness to America's Youth, in an effort to improve their quality of life and build better, stronger communities. The foundation is committed to fulfilling Mr. Griffey's dream of providing a variety sport fundamentals and health education opportunities that lead to a productive and prosperous life.

The clinics will serve as an educational tool to help the youth and their parent/guardian gain knowledge on Message how to fight or avoid childhood obesity and adult weight gain through healthy active lifestyles.
