Biography:
Michael V. Hicks Jr. has an intense passion about helping the black youth in this nation. Mr. Hicks is a 40 year old, married father. He is currently studying Human Services, with a minor in Business at the University of Phoenix. Mr. Hicks mentors and tutors youths through the Literacy Volunteers of Western New York. Michael Hicks Jr. has coached several sports and is involved with the youth organizations in his church, Grace Baptist Church, Buffalo N.Y. Mr. Hicks is a military veteran (Navy), and he has been employed with his present company, Goodyear/Dunlop for 17 years.

Helping the youth, particularly young men, in his communities and across the nation, is very important to Mr. Hicks. He wants to show the young men of our communities that he is a work in progress just as they are. Mr. Hicks mentors youth in the inner-city school system, and he can see what happens when someone instills caring and motivation in them and what it can do for their self-esteem and their schoolwork. Mr. Hicks plans to work in the prison system as a counselor to help turn lives around.

Mr. Hicks still has goals for himself and his family. He believes he can achieve these goals through education and honest, hard work, and he wants to instill these values into our youth. Mr. Hicks can relate to the struggles of living in a single parent household. Mr. Hicks’ father was not around for guidance.

Growing up, Mr. Hicks’ family did not have much money and he saw a tired and weary mother that tried to be both a mother and father him. Michael V. Hicks Jr. has experienced a lot in his lifetime, and is very eager to share his story of perseverance with others. Mr. Hicks feels that the most important thing that he can show our youth is that he cares about them, even if they feel that no one else does.
