Biography:
Susan Summons, “the motivator” is a nationally acclaimed sports educator, hall of fame coach and player, professor, master teacher, author and motivational speaker. Recently, Susan became the first community college sports educator and first African American woman in this venue to be named one of the “TOP 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America” as presented by the Institute for International Sport, “a brilliant speaker and motivator”announced the Institute. Summons selection places her in the company of other notable sports celebrities as Tiger Woods, Alonzo Mourning, John Wooden, Phil Jackson, Billie Jean King, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Bob Costas., C. Vivian Stringer, Pat Head Summit and Dr. Harry Edwards. Susan Summons, an associate professor in Biology Health & Wellness Department at Miami Dade College-Kendall and women’s basketball coach often teaches student life skills and boast a 93% graduation and placement rate of students to universities, one of the highest in the nation. Susan is an electric, talented, energetic, powerful, entertaining and charismatic speaker. Susan Summons was selected one of 25 distinguished individuals from the fields of coaching, psychology, health & wellness, radio announcers, sports, and education to serve as one of the National Experts on the National Center For Sports Parenting Board at the Institute for International Sports.

Ms. Summons has appeared on television shows including the popular NBC South Florida Today Show, NBA Entertainment “Inside Stuff”, NBC Channel 6 Morning Show, and WLRN. Susan has been interviewed on radio shows including, Boston’s WEEI with Jimmie Myers, Tom Joyner’s Hot 105 Radio Show with Rodney Baltimore, Boston’s WILD 1090, Palm Beach 103.6, WMBN radio with Jim Berry. Susan has appeared in the Miami Herald, Miami Times, Boston Herald, Bay State Banner, Providence Journal, St. Pete Times and National Magazine “ Juco Review”. Summons a motivational writer and columnist, whose writings and quotes have appeared in BeFitKids Magazine. Summons writings which include articles , “Feel The Beat”, “Put Your Game Face On”, “The Kaleidoscope Of A Champion”, “The Mad Season”- The Story of the First Women’s Professional Basketball League by Karra Porter, “Recruiting On A Minimal Budget’ by the Recruiters Institute”, and most recently, the national release of the “Encyclopedia of Sports Parenting ”book by Dan Doyle.

Susan is often described by her colleagues as “an electric inspirational motivator and trainer”. “Her voice motivates you to get up and take action”. Susan is a Master Teacher who coaches, inspires and motivates at all levels of success. Susan became the first African American woman at the community college level to serve as an Assistant Coach for the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival Team(Bronze Medal), a Floor Coach at the USA World Championship Trials, and an Assistant Coach for the USA National European Select Team Tour(Israel, France).

Susan Summons’ “eloquent and inspirational message should be heard by as many student athletes, coaches, and parents as possible, the Institute announced.” A pioneer in the first Women’s Professional Basketball League, the WBL, for New England Gulls. Susan is the Founder & President of Susan Summons Motivational Enterprises, which provides motivational speaking, speech writing, and success coaching service. Susan is also the Founder & CEO of Best of the Rest Stars, Inc. a 501 © (3) non-profit organization that host a motivational summer basketball, education and wellness academy and sports festival for girls and boys. Susan Summons is a National Coach of the Year, a Hall of Fame Inductee whose received a Proclamation Award naming a Susan Summons Day both in Miami, Florida and Beaumont, Texas.
